League Endorses Candidates.
On Sunday, October 8th, 2006, staff, executive committee and general body members came together to endorse and recommend candidates to elect this November 7, 2006. The endorsed candidates were chosen by the membership for their commitment to issues that we collectively value: governmental reform, freedom of choice, support of public transportation initiatives, and support for legislation that improves the quality of life for young people, such as increasing funding for Pell grants (or voting against cutting such funding), creating a diverse metropolitan region and working to bring jobs to Pennsylvania. We also endorsed candidates who are facing close races against their opponents and who we felt could run a successful campaign. The League will focus on electing our endorsed candidates. We recommended candidates who are not as closely aligned with advancing our issues, but who would be far better than their opponent, and who will be facing tight races come November. While we recommend that our members vote for such candidates, we do not have the time or resources to dedicate to working specifically to promote such candidates. Please contact Nish Suvarnakar at nish@indyvoter.org or 412-728-2197 to volunteer in the field in the next four weeks.
