The Return of Historical Marker Wednesday

In Downtown Pittsburgh to talk with some League supporters I came across this marker celebrating the creation of the nation of Czechoslovakia. Some years later, in the aftermath of the fall of the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia underwent the so-called “Velvet Divorce,” agreeing peacefully to split into the seperate nations of Slovakia and the Czech Republic, a situation that continues today.
Let’s take a moment to consider the power of active Czechs and Slovaks to peacefully both create and dissolve a nation. If they can accomplish that, think what an active and thoughtful progressive majority in this country might do.
